Standard Pit Depth Gauges

Western's dial-indicator pit depth gauges pair a knife-edged blade with a push-to-read indicator, so the inspector can scan through a pitted area and quickly find and measure the deepest point. Three indicators fit every blade: an imperial dial reading 0.550 in in 0.001 in graduations, a metric dial reading 14 mm in 0.01 mm graduations, and a 55 mm digital indicator reading either, all accurate to 0.005 mm (0.0005 in). Standard, conical and needle contact points, and an extension that adds 12.7 mm of range, adapt the gauge to the job.

The Basic Pit Gauge (N88-2) is the introductory model, and the Pocket Pit Gauge (N88-4), with a reversible flat and spot blade for compound curves such as pump scrolls, impellers, gas cylinder necks and turbine blades, is now the most popular. The Reaching Pit Gauges (N88-5 and N88-6, with magnetic versions) mount the indicator at the end of a long blade with a cut-away nose, so they span wide, shallow pits and measure right up to a weld, riser or reinforcing pad. The Tubing Inspection Gauge (N88-TI) has a short blade for fit-up and undercut on small-diameter instrumentation tubing welds. Standard models are supplied as a kit in a wooden case with a calibration certificate.
