Magnetic Particle Inspection Yokes

A yoke is a handheld electromagnet that induces a magnetic field into a steel workpiece so that magnetic particles gather at surface-breaking cracks. Western's AC yokes — the WC-6, WE-3HD, WE-3LT and WE-3 — give the greatest particle mobility and demagnetise the part simply by being pulled away while still energised. The WE-Series AC yokes lift over 10 lb, exceeding ASTM and ASME requirements, and the WE-3LT is more than 30% lighter than Western's other AC yokes. The WE-7 adds infinitely variable DC output and lifts over 50 lb (23 kg) in DC mode.

For work away from mains power, the WC-8 runs from a 12 V battery pack with a pulsed DC field, and the WC-9 cordless yoke runs for two hours continuously on its own battery, lifts 50 lb (23 kg) and is designed for Class I, Division 2 environments. The WM-5, WM-5LT, WM-5C and LP-5C (Flex Mag) permanent-magnet yokes need no electricity at all. Specialty models include the W-6CS cavity yoke for pump housings, bores and box-end threads, the WC-6UW for underwater inspection to 91 m (300 ft), the WC-42 for 42 V supplies and the WC-6X2, which lifts over 20 lb for testing through coated or painted surfaces.
