Magnetic Particle Inspection Coils

All of Western's coils are designed, developed and manufactured on site in Alberta, in four distinct series. The WA Series is the economy, light-duty AC coil, with over 4,000 ampere-turns on 115 V/60 Hz power and over 5,000 on 230 V/50 Hz, in 8, 10, 12 and 14 in (203 to 356 mm) bores. The WP Series is a medium-duty AC/DC coil with over 7,000 ampere-turns of half-wave DC and 4,000 in AC; the base AC model can be upgraded to pulse DC, then infinitely variable DC and finally reversible polarity for reversing, decaying DC demagnetisation — so a 12 in coil can be a WP-12, WP-12D, WP-12DV or WP-12DVR.

The WS Series are drill pipe end-area coils: a capacitive discharge power supply delivers 1,200 ampere-turns per inch of bore and more than 400 gauss at the centre of the coil, yet every model weighs under 9 kg (20 lb). The WD Series is Western's heavy-duty flagship, with powerful full-wave DC output, optional AC and pulse DC, infinitely variable DC and reversing polarity, and has earned a worldwide reputation for demagnetisation. WD coils are offered from 219 mm (8⅝ in) to 1,524 mm (60 in) bore and are the industry standard for fracturing and cementing connections.
