Pre-Weld Demagnetisation Systems

Line pipe is more often than not magnetised by the time it is strung out along the right-of-way, so its ends must be demagnetised before welding. Western's demag system is built on its proven WD-Series magnetising and demagnetising coils, carried on a standard one-ton truck with a light utility crane and a generator — all readily available components. Once the vehicle is positioned at the pipe ends, placing the coil and demagnetising takes less than two minutes per end, and the ends stay demagnetised to an acceptable ±2 gauss for well over 12 hours.

The WDV-PD Series spans 8 in to 60 in coils in four handling classes: 8 to 14 in coils under 100 lb for operator handling, 16 and 18 in coils with a lifting lug for auxiliary handling, and the 25 in and 38 to 60 in coils for crane handling, with a remote control housing and end and centralising assemblies for a range of pipe sizes. Every model has adjustable polarity, infinitely variable amperage, a continuous-reading ammeter, energise-button activation, ID wear bars and a calibration certificate.
