Portable Ultrasonic Equipment

Western manufactures ultrasonic thickness blocks to ASTM E797, supplied in a wooden storage case with a certificate of conformance. The Flat Series has parallel steps and square edges, in carbon or 304L stainless steel and in imperial or metric steps, including the six-step Boiler Block; the Curved Series is made from A106 material with a 3.5 in outside diameter to meet E797 for curved surfaces. Flat-bottom holes can be added to a pad, turning a block into a training aid that shows what a corrosion pit or internal porosity looks like.

Western also makes its own couplants for local conditions. The -40° Ultrasonic Couplant stays at low viscosity from -40 °C to above +40 °C, carries a UV tracer so complete removal can be checked, and can be diluted with water for flaw detection, while the water-free No H2O UT Couplant holds its viscosity up to 205 °C for high-temperature stainless steel service. To complete the kit, Western supplies Dakota Ultrasonics thickness gauges — the ZX-3, ZX-5, ZX-6, CMX-DL+ and MVX series — with their transducers and accessories.
