Lovis 2000 M/ME Rolling-Ball Viscometer

Höppler rolling-ball viscosity measurement on samples as small as 400 µL.

Anton Paar
Overview

The Lovis 2000 M/ME measures viscosity by timing a ball rolling through an inclined, temperature-controlled capillary — the Höppler falling-ball principle — and works on transparent and opaque liquids alike. A measurement needs only about 400 µL of sample, which matters when the sample is a scarce pharmaceutical formulation, a protein solution or an expensive R&D batch.

Results are reported as relative, kinematic or dynamic viscosity, and when the Lovis is combined with a DMA density meter, viscosity and density come from the same sample in the same sequence. Its small sample volume and tight temperature control also make it the usual choice for intrinsic and relative viscosity work on polymers.

Key Features
  • Höppler rolling-ball principle for low-viscosity liquids
  • Only about 400 µL of sample per measurement
  • Works with transparent and opaque samples
  • Relative, kinematic and dynamic viscosity results
  • Precise temperature control for reproducible low-viscosity work
  • Combines with DMA density meters for density and viscosity in one run
Applications
  • Pharmaceutical formulation and protein solution R&D
  • Polymer intrinsic and relative viscosity determination
  • Chemical and petrochemical research laboratories
  • Ink-jet and coating formulation development
  • Any application where sample volume is limited
