Where a full spectrophotometer is more than the job needs, a 3NH colorimeter gives a fast colour-difference reading against a stored standard. The range runs from the portable NH300 and NH310, through the NR110, NR145 and large-aperture NR20XE precision colorimeters, to the automatic NR200.
They are battery powered and built for quick, repeatable checks on the line, at goods-in and in the warehouse, where the question is simply whether a part is within tolerance of its standard.
