ASM posiwire draw-wire sensors measure linear position and displacement over long ranges using a flexible measuring cable wound on a precision drum, packaged in a compact housing.
posiwire cable-extension position sensors are ASM's flagship product family. A flexible stainless-steel measuring cable extends from a spring-loaded drum, and the rotation of the drum is converted into an electrical signal proportional to the cable extension — giving accurate linear position measurement over ranges from a few centimetres up to many metres while keeping the sensor body small.
The range covers a wide choice of measuring lengths, accuracy classes, output signals and housing materials, allowing the same proven principle to be applied from compact automation tasks through to long-travel mobile and industrial machinery.
